The Deeper Sea
I've always been a bit disappointed about heaven. An eternity spent singing hymns with a bunch of people in white choir robes has never appealed to me. I'm a project person, and if I don't have a short-term goal to work towards, I'm lost. Heaven is forever, which is a really long time to be singing hymns over and over.
I love living life here on earth - discussing ideas, creating art, appreciating beauty. For such a long time I haven't understood the connection between earth and heaven, but things finally clicked when I read a passage from The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis:
"Perhaps you will get some idea of it if you think like this. You may have been in a room in which there was a window that looked out on a lovely bay of the sea or a green valley that wound away among mountains. And in the wall of that room opposite to the window there may have been a looking-glass. And as you turned away from the window you suddenly caught sight of that sea or that valley, all over again, in the looking glass. And the sea in the mirror, or the valley in the mirror, were in one sense just the same as the real ones: yet at the same time they were somehow different - deeper, more wonderful, more like places in a story: in a story you have never heard but very much want to know. The difference between the old Narnia and the new Narnia was like that. The new one was a deeper country: every rock and flower and blade of grass looked as if it meant more. I can't describe it any better than that: if you ever get there you will know what I mean."
If I love the sea, I can barely imagine what the deeper sea will be like.

wow, I love the quote. How true it is, we do love life on earth...yet, how much more amazing will it be in heaven!
Hello, Katherine. This is the Chorus Leader, =P (also known, IRL, as Stephanie Morris, ^^). Glad to see you found such a beautiful title for your blog.
To avoid an over effusive comment, one which refuses to end and insists upon repeating itself endlessly, I'll just mention that I love your opening post and its C. S. Lewis quotation. I remember that quote from the Narnia-phase my mum, sister, and I went through some years ago, and like yourself, I really took that quote to heart. If I'm recalling correctly, I even wrote an essay on it, just to remember it, to savour it. Truly beautiful. ^^
And now, having said hello, I'll bid you adieu until your next post!

Very nice stuff. I love that part of The Last Battle. Actually I love the whole book. It gets better each time I read it.
